![]() ![]() Definitely still a beloved, favorite series, and I can't wait to see where Raybourn takes us next!Ĥ stars! Another engaging Veronica Speedwell mystery! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ This was probably my least favorite case solved by our dynamic duo, but I really adored the risk that the author took to bring an extra element of emotion and characterization to our main characters, as well as Stoker's eldest brother. I felt so lost, but thankfully Raybourn finds a way to get everyone together on one island, and after a drawn out slow burn, the reader reaps their reward, complete with a tinge of mysterious set up for the fifth installment. Veronica and Stoker are indifferent towards each other, they spend 6 months apart with no contact, which is followed by a lack of cheeky banter/flirting. I was a bit nervous wading through the beginning of this one, because it was completely different from the rest of the previous novels in the series. ![]() I'd say the first 50% of this book was a 3 star read, but then it picked up and the final 25% was an easy 5 stars for the veronica/stoker progression. ![]()
